Winter Skincare : How to save your skin from the cold!
Updated: Apr 25
I can't really say it's been a long Winter, because the real "Canadian cold" has only recently arrived here in Italy. However for about a month now I could tell the weather was changing because my skin was yelling HELP!!
I took the opportunity to go meet with my dermatologist (since I finally received my Italian health card I should use it right?!) and see what he suggested.
He explained to me that the key to surviving the winter without harming your skin is having a consistent skin regiment and constant hydration (aka drink more water!). I mean I would always be more attentive to moisturize my skin when traveling (the dry air the airplanes is the worst right?!) or a few times a week but since this appointment I have been attacking this cold weather with a strong skin regime.
I thought I would share some of my favourite products with you - don't worry they can be found in Canada and in Italy!
My all time favourite moisturizer is Clinique Moisture Surge. I have been using it for about a year now anytime my skin started to feel very dry and stiff. However I've noticed huge changes since using it everyday - my skin is softer and feels smooth! What I love the most is that it's lightweight and can be put on in the morning before your makeup (and doesn't leave your face feeling greasy).
At night I use Clinique Turnaround Overnight which is a thicker cream that locks in moisture while I sleep to make sure that my skin doesn't dry out overnight (it happens more in the winter with the heaters on)! I always apply it after a hot shower because my pores are open and the cream can really penetrate deep within my skin.
Both these products can be purchased anywhere you find Clinique Products!
One thing many of us forget to do in the winter is continue to drink enough water. A simple way to drink more water (and gain tons of health benefits) is to drink warm/hot tea with fresh ginger root! It's a simple way to drink more water and keep warm aaaand cozy 😊
Here are a few other favourite products to help get through this winter:
Socks : Gap (on sale and so warm)
Tea : Dr. Stewart's from Excelsior Milano (any Echinacea tea is a possibile solution)
Lips : Nivea Hydration Lip Balm
Body : Yves Rocher Expert Repatation (extra strength body butter cream for max hydration and smooth skin)
Hands : L'Occitane en Provence hand cream. I always have one in my purse because they're great for travel! Especially love the rose scented cream
Cookies : Ginger & Lime cookies, a special winter treat. If you're in Italy buy them from Dynamo Camp's website and support this important Italian group!
Hope you enjoy these products as much as I do!! Let me know if you have any go-to products that you use in the winter! 😘
